Hi, its me! The owner of Smooth Operator Sugaring Studio.
I have been sugaring part time since 2018, bouncing between every single department at my day job to satisfy my need for change, and whipping through most of a psych degree just to keep it interesting. But, while walking downtown one day in beautiful District 1881, the devil on my shoulder (aka my husband), planted a nugget of inspiration that lead to the conception of Smooth Operator. And just like that, we were moving, strategizing, and applying for a business license. And now here we are!
My greatest joy in life is to help others feel awesome, and while some may think sugaring is just hair removal, to me, its also a place for you to get away for a moment, a place to make new friends, a place to vent to a stranger and deal with the pain (both literally and figuratively) of living every day life.
While I firmly believe in your right to let it grow regardless of what society says, I also know that shaving sucks, the pink tax is ridiculous, and the more you rip it out, the thinner it gets. So for those who want to be hair-free, come hang out! I cherish getting to meet and support fabulous people from all walks of life, and I live for making your lives just a little bit easier.
I do want to give credit to all of the countless friends, family, and cheerleaders who helped make this dream a possibility. Without those hardworking hands, hearts, and brains, I would not have been able to pull this off. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You.
Shelby Friesen | practitioner
Shelby began her sugaring career in 2017. During her time in the industry, she built a reputation for being exceptionally gentle, detail-focused, and kind-hearted—making clients feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way!
After a couple of years, she stepped away to pursue a career in ASL interpreting and to focus on growing her family as a busy mom of twins. In her spare time, she brings a little extra magic to life by co-owning and performing in her own princess party company A Little Moore Magic.
Now that her twins are a bit older and life has found a new rhythm, Shelby has returned to sugaring part time, bringing back the same gentle touch and thoughtful care she’s always been known for!
Kenzie Mang | practitioner in training
In between Lash clients at her home studio Honey Haze Beauty, (See her here!) and hair transformations as a Refinery House Practicum student, Kenzie is excited to add sugaring to her repertoire of skills! Known for her warm personality and laid-back vibe, she loves creating a space where clients can relax, connect, and leave feeling amazing.
Joining the Smooth Operator team part time to supplement all her other endeavors, Kenzie believes beauty is about feeling your best, and she strives to create a comfortable, uplifting environment where every client leaves feeling confident and refreshed.
As Kenzie is still in training, all services performed by her may take extra time and will be supervised by the studio owner, Amber. Until she is up to speed and confident in providing the best experience for you, you will receive a discount when booking with her. All appointments with Kenzie must be booked by texting or calling the studio at 604-799-1975 for the time being.
