Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS SUGARING? Sugaring is a form of hair removal similar to waxing, except it is all natural, more efficient, and more gentle. Sugar paste is made of just three ingredients -- Sugar, Water, and Lemon Juice. No chemicals or additives. The paste is applied to the skin against the direction of hair growth and removed in the direction that the hair naturally falls, so there is less irritation, and less likelihood for ingrowns.

WHO CAN GET SUGARED? Pretty much anyone! We sugar the full body, excluding top of head hair for all genders, and nearly all ages (parental consent required for minors). If you have hair, we can remove it for you! The only exceptions come along for those using skin-thinning medications or cosmetics, which are listed in our new client intake forms to ensure everyone is aware of the risks.

DOES IT HURT? Short answer... Yes. We are ripping your hair out after all. However, sugaring is the gentlest form of hair removal, and is widely regarded as being less painful than regular waxing, with much less recovery time and greatly reduced skin trauma.

WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE IT HURT LESS? • Stay Hydrated • Avoid Caffeine within 4 hours of your appointment • Take a Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment • Avoid alcohol the day before your appointment • Do not shave between appointments • Come regularly before the hair gets too long • Make sure the area to be sugared is clean and free of lotions, oils, and other body products. • Avoid booking just before or during your menstrual cycle • Get a good nights sleep • Avoid mental and physical stress (Good luck!) • Distract yourself with conversation, a digital device, or fidget toy (ask us about what we have on hand for this purpose) Basically, the less irritated your body and mind are, the less irritating the procedure will be.

HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE? In order for the sugar to adequately grab the hair, it should be at minimum 1/4 inch long or about the length of a grain of rice. If it is any shorter, there is a higher chance that it will not be grabbed by the sugar, and therefore left behind.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BOOK IN? The general answer is: every 4-6 weeks. To get the best results from your sugaring, you want to be removing the hair during the anagen phase, which generally lasts about 45 days from the beginning of a hair's growth cycle. The ultimate answer is: Everyone is different. Hair growth is affected by things such as genetics, ethnicity, age, hormones, health, and nutrition, which can change the length of the anagen phase and how quickly the hair should be removed. We recommend rebooking when your hair is suspected to be around 1/4 inch in length, which can differ for each person and each body part. Speak to your practitioner about what they think might work for you and your growth patterns.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? The easy answer: 2 - 4 weeks hairfree, with 2ish weeks to grow back. The real answer: It will depend on your specific hair growth patterns, which body parts you are sugaring, and how often you have been getting regular hair removal. The more you have the hair removed at regular intervals, the less and less it will grow back, thus allowing you to leave more time between appointments. Also different body parts, such as arms, grow slower than other parts, like the face and underarms.

CAN I BE SUGARED WHILE MENSTRUATING? Absolutely! It will more than likely be more sensitive than when you are not, but if you are comfortable, we are comfortable. We have free menstrual products on site if you find the need for some.

CAN I BE SUGARED WHILE PREGNANT? We recommend it! It will likely be more sensitive than when you are not growing a human, but sugaring is the most gentle way to help yourself stay clean and comfortable when you can no longer see/reach your lower half. We have procedures in place to ensure that you remain comfortable and safe during the service.

CAN I GET A SPRAY TAN? We recommend waiting at least 24 hours to get a spray tan after sugaring, to give your pores time to breath and calm down. We do not recommend getting a tan prior to sugaring, as the service will entirely remove any tan you have in the sugared area-- even a recent UV suntan.

HOW DO I AVOID INGROWN HAIRS? Proper Aftercare. For 24 hours after your appointment: • Avoid touching the treated area to prevent bacteria transfer. • Do not exfoliate. • Avoid sweating, heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and long hot showers. • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds • Avoid tight clothing that may cause friction. • Do not apply makeup, deodorant, self‑tanner, or fragranced products to the treated area. • Redness and mild sensitivity are normal and should subside within a few hours. 48-72 Hours after your appointment: • Begin gentle exfoliation 2–3 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs. • Moisturize daily with a fragrance‑free lotion or recommended product. • Avoid picking, scratching, or squeezing any ingrown hairs. • Avoid tanning (sun or beds) for at least 48 hours to reduce risk of hyperpigmentation. If you get an ingrown hair: • Avoid touching it, and if you do, be sure to wash your hands. • Applying a cold compress or a soothing product (like aloe vera or witch hazel) may help ease the pain. • Do not exfoliate the area until irritation has fully subsided. We do have a selection of scrubs, exfoliating tools, and chemical exfoliants and soothers available in the store if you are in need of anything.
